East Africa

96 elephants are killed every day for their ivory.

The problem

In 1980, the population of African elephants was estimated to be near 1,200,000. In 2012, it had decreased to only 420,000 due to illegal poaching and the ivory trade. Despite legislative actions, this industry continues to destroy elephant populations at a rate which some estimates indicate could cause them to become extinct within decades.

How we help

We partner with the International Elephant Foundation (IEF) to create a sustainable future for elephants by raising thousands of dollars every years through special events. These funds help support specific initiatives aimed at putting a stop to poaching, such as the Horse Patrol Team (HPT) stationed in the Mount Kenya Trust. The HPT saw 75% decrease in poaching incidents in the first three years after their establishment.
